Receptionist/Medical Records

Mississippi Valley Surgery Center is seeking a dependable, organized, and patient-focused individual to join our team in a full-time Receptionist / Medical Records position.
This position supports both front-desk reception and medical records functions. As one of the first people our patients and visitors encounter, this individual must provide excellent customer service in a kind and professional manner while maintaining accurate, secure, and confidential information.
Primary Responsibilities
- Greet and register patients in a friendly and professional manner.
- Verify patient demographics, insurance information, identification, and required documentation.
- Collect applicable copayments, deductibles, and other patient-responsibility amounts.
- Answer and route telephone calls and assist patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
- Prepare patient charts and registration packets for upcoming procedures.
- Review patient paperwork for accuracy, required signatures, and correct patient identification.
- Scan, index, file, organize, retrieve, and maintain electronic and paper medical records.
- Review medical records for completeness and obtain missing documentation, reports, or signatures.
- Accurately enter information from patient medical-record charts into the electronic health record system.
- Process authorized medical-record requests and releases of information.
- Protect the privacy, confidentiality, accuracy, and security of all patient information.
- Complete additional front-office and medical-record duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous medical office, patient registration, or medical records experience preferred.
- Maintains a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
- Strong customer service, communication, computer, typing, and data-entry skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and time management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and complete responsibilities without ongoing direction or supervision.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, medical terminology, and insurance processes preferred.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality are required.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with hours that vary based on the operating room surgical schedule. Applicants must have the flexibility to work shifts beginning as early as 5:00 a.m. and ending as late as 4:00 p.m.
